西洋牡荊/貞節樹/聖潔莓

古希臘人早在西元前即開始食用牡荊子，他們相信牡荊子能抑止性欲而讓那些因丈夫常年征戰在外獨守家園的妻子們食用之，從而安撫她們的情緒，聖潔莓也因此得名。在義大利，修道院直到今天都還有在庭院種植這種牡荊樹，因此也稱為僧侶的胡椒。

n  歐洲牡荊主要分佈在地中海地區，牡荊屬的芳香落葉小灌木，植株高可達5公尺、通常為淡紫色的圓錐狀簇生成穗(花簇)，花萼鐘狀，上端5裂，其他品種牡荊花穗顏色有白、藍、黃…等。

n  樹幹灰褐色，細枝四方形柔軟有強烈氣味。

n  葉對生5~7淺裂，掌狀複葉邊具粗鋸齒，倒卵狀披針形或橢圓狀披針形，葉背被白色氈狀毛，表面有白色腺點。

n  荊實核果球形，6mm，幼時綠色，熟後果實紅色，乾燥的果實棕色，用於調味茶飲。

n  馬鞭草科牡荊屬落葉灌木，種類很多，有牡荊，黃荊，紫荊等。枝條柔韌，可編筐籃;果實可入藥。

n  “荊”落葉灌木，葉有長柄，掌狀分裂，開藍紫色小花，枝條可編筐籃等( 亦稱“楚”)，楚木也，懸鉤子屬植物

Its main components are Acetic Acid, Capric Acid, Eugenol, Furfural, Isobutyric Acid and Vanillin Hydroxybenzaldehyde. Most of the flavors that include “vanilla” are not actually derived from proper vanilla at all. They are synthesized from hydrocarbons.

Lemon balm is often used as a flavouring in ice cream and herbal teas, both hot and iced, often in combination with other herbs such asspearmint.
