Immortelle is a plant native to the Mediterranean coastal regions of both southern Europe and northern Africa. It bears the scientific genus name Helichrysum, but within this family contains a wide variety of different species. All are closely related and are prized both in gardening, culinary, and cosmetic use. These plants are characterized by bright yellow flowers that bloom for the better part of each year.

The exact reason why plants in the Helichrysum family are called “immortelle,“ or at times “everlasting,” is unknown, but there are two prevailing theories. One is that the blooms last for an unusually long time. Flowers typically bloom in late winter, and remain fragrant and colorful through the first frost in the fall. When cut, the flowers also dry almost perfectly preserved. Dried arrangements can keep looking fresh for months or more.

Another theory relates to the plant’s cosmetic uses. Immortelle essential oils have long been prized for restoring the elasticity of skin and have been used as a skin tonic for treating wounds and scrapes since in ancient times. The oils from the flowers have long been believed to restore a youthful look, as well. Many cosmetics products containing immortelle oils are marketed as anti-aging or age-defying, often with attendant promises of restored youth.

The flower’s blooms make it a garden favorite all over the world. Growing immortelle is simple in most environments, and the plants will take root in a variety of soils and climates. The plants generally prefer arid, dry environments with thin to rocky soil, but can adapt relatively easily to most conditions. Planting immortelle is common both indoors and out, and it is generally known as a hardy plant that is hard to kill.

Immortelle also has a number of culinary uses. Its leaves smell distinctly of Indian curry powder, leading many to believe that these leaves form the base of curry dishes. This is not in fact the case: the smell does not usually translate into actual taste, and no plants in the Helichrysum genus are native to the Indian subcontinent. The leaves are popular flavor additives to a range of meals in other parts of the world, however.

Cooks on the island of Sicily, just south of Italy, are some of the most voracious consumers of culinary immortelle. The variety of plant that grows there is known as Helichrysum italicum. Like most other variations, it imparts a strong flavor, but is rarely actually consumed. More often, it is used as a simmering agent or roasting flavor, and removed just before serving.

Nearly all parts of the plant are edible, no matter which species is at issue. Even when cooked, however, the plant generally carries a bitter taste and has been known to upset the stomach in large doses. For this reason, it is usually used for simmering, then discarded before serving and sharing.

Lemon balm is often used as a flavouring in ice cream and herbal teas, both hot and iced, often in combination with other herbs such asspearmint. It is also frequently paired with fruit dishes or candies. It can be used in fish dishes and is the key ingredient in lemon balm pesto. It might be a better, healthier preservative than butylated hydroxy anisole in sausages.

Uses in traditional and alternative medicine Lemon balm is the main ingredient of Carmelite Water, which is still for sale in German pharmacies.

Lemon balm essential oil is very popular in aromatherapy. The essential oil is commonly codistilled with lemon oil, citronella oil, or other oils.

Research into possible effects on humans

High doses of purified lemon balm extracts were found to be effective in the amelioration of laboratory-induced stress in human subjects, producing "significantly increased self-ratings of calmness and reduced self-ratings of alertness." The authors further report a "significant increase in the speed of mathematical processing, with no reduction in accuracy" following the administration of a 300-mg dose of extract.

Lemon balm is believed to inhibit the absorption of the thyroid medication thyroxine.

Recent research found a daily dose of the tea reduced oxidative stress status in radiology staff who were exposed to persistent low-dose radiation during work. After only 30 days of taking the tea daily, consuming lemon balm tea resulted in a significant improvement isuperoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase, and a marked reduction in plasma DNA damage, myeloperoxidase, and lipid peroxidation.

The crushed leaves, when rubbed on the skin, are used as a mosquito repellent.

Lemon balm is also used medicinally as an herbal tea, or in extract form. It is used as an anxiolytic, mild sedative, or calming agent. At least one study has found it to be effective at reducing stress, although the study's authors call for further research. Lemon balm extract was identified as a potent in vitro inhibitor of GABA transaminase, which explains anxiolytic effects. The major compound responsible for GABA transaminase inhibition activity in lemon balm was then found to be rosmarinic acid.

Lemon balm and preparations thereof also have been shown to improve mood and mental performance. These effects are believed to involve muscarinic and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.^] Positive results have been achieved in a small clinical trial involving Alzheimer patients with mild to moderate symptoms.^] Essential oils obtained from Melissa officinalis leaf showed high acetylcholinesterase andbutyrylcholinesterase co-inhibitory activities.

Its antibacterial properties have also been demonstrated scientifically, although they are markedly weaker than those from a number of other plants studied.The extract of lemon balm was also found to have exceptionally high antioxidant activity.

Cistus Essential Oil, also known as Rock Rose or Labdanum, is steam distilled from the leaves of wild crafted Cistus ladaniferus.  There is some confusion, in the industry, about this oil because there are two other oils produced from the plant:  an absolute that is solvent extracted from the flowers which is correctly referred to as an absolute, but there is another solvent extracted oil that is produced from the resin which is usually referred to as an essential oil but, is not an essential oil.  The resin is processed through solvent extraction, which usually will end up containing residual solvent in the oil.  This should not be confused with the actual essential oil, which is steam distilled.

Therapeutic Use:  Cistus Essential Oil, Rock Rose / Labdanum, is well known for its meditative effect where it is said to slow the mind for deeper concentration.  It is also a very powerful tool in the fight against aging skin where it offers significant astringent activity for toning, and tightening, the skin. In Aromatherapy this oil is used in anti-aging skin care as well as to slow bleeding and is a favorite in these applications.

岩玫瑰品種

用來萃取精油的品種，花通常爲白色，葉片窄長、油亮、黏稠，會滲出樹脂。（是白花噢）主要油脂分布在葉片上，會滲出黏黏的、樹脂般的物質。因此葉片看起來油亮亮的，對於糾結脆弱的心靈具有良好的療效。岩玫瑰是多分子精油噢~~芳香分子種類多且比率相當，使得作用強大多元、氣味細致豐富。岩玫瑰的勞丹脂是深受喜愛的芳香精質。經證實也是止咳良藥噢～在中世紀隨着十字軍傳入歐洲。岩玫瑰氣味特殊，具有琥珀、龍涎香的淵源流長感，不像一般樹脂味道比較沉重。反而有股輕盈的濕感，是潮濕泥土上的苔蘚氣味。

原產地西班牙/摩洛哥，部分地中海地區也有，如法國，喜歡生長在排水顺暢的沙質土，討厭粘土，性格爽利幹脆、通透性強。它崇尚自然，拒絕人工幹涉，不喜歡肥料、與無法被修，一修剪就會長得不好，多半是野生，很少有大範圍的植栽。現代主生產地是西班牙西北角/葡萄牙東北角地區，采收方式也改變，當盛夏樹脂旺盛時，剪下枝葉，置入熱水中煮出膠質以取得樹脂。但喜歡以岩玫瑰當定香劑的調香師認爲品質最佳是在法國的鄂斯特雷（Esterel）隻少量生產。

特性

岩玫瑰多分子結構形成的全面性，比較容易碰觸人類那晦澀的潛意識領域，進入大腦邊緣系統以啟動不同區域的記憶、逐漸釋放情緒。因爲是漸進式地層層剝解，每次用ct5類型的精油都可能出現不同的反應，或許會感到混亂，甚至特别容易做怪夢，但這是重新整理潛意識的開端。

它是公認的抗病毒第一名，卻不給人剛強的印象，也是因爲它由内里慢慢剝解，而影響全面的特質使然。

Bitter orange is a plant. The peel, flower, leaf, fruit, and fruit juice are used to make medicine. Bitter orange oil is made from the peel.

Bitter orange, both taken by mouth and applied to the skin, has many uses. But so far, science has shown only that the oil, when applied to the skin, might be effective for treatment of fungal skin infections

Bitter orange peel is also used to improve appetite, and, in surprising contrast, it is also used for weight loss. Other uses for the fruit and peel are upset stomach, nasal congestion, and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

The bitter orange flower and bitter orange oil are used for gastrointestinal (GI) disorders including ulcers in the intestine, constipation, diarrhea, blood in feces, drooping (prolapsed) anus or rectum, and intestinal gas. These parts of the bitter orange plant are also used for regulating fat levels in the blood, lowering blood sugar in people with diabetes, stimulating the heart and circulation, “blood purification,” disorders of liver and gallbladder, kidney and bladder diseases, and as a sedative for sleep disorders.

Some people use bitter orange flower and its oil for general feebleness, “tired blood” (anemia), impurities of the skin, hair loss, cancer, frostbite, and as a tonic.

Because the fruit is so sour and bitter, it is rarely eaten, except in Iran and Mexico. The dried peel of the fruit is also used as a seasoning.

In manufacturing, bitter orange oil is used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and soaps.

In Asian medicine, the entire dried unripe fruit is used primarily for digestive disorders.

Bitter orange is frequently used in “ephedra-free” products since the FDA banned ephedra in 2004 for serious side effects on the heart. Bitter orange and caffeine, a frequent combination in weight loss and bodybuilding products, can cause high blood pressure and increased heart rate in healthy adults with otherwise normal blood pressure. There is no evidence to suggest that bitter orange is any safer than ephedra.

Bitter orange (synephrine) is considered a banned substance by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

How does it work?

Bitter orange has many chemicals that affect the nervous system. The concentration and effect of these chemicals can change depending on the part of the plant and the method used for preparation. Bitter orange, Seville orange, sour orange, bigarade orange, or marmalade orange refers to a citrus tree (Citrus × aurantium) and its fruit. It is a hybrid between Citrus maxima (pomelo) and Citrus reticulata (mandarin). Many varieties of bitter orange are used for their essential oil, and are found in perfume, used as a flavoring or as a solvent. The Seville orange variety is used in the production of marmalade.

Bitter orange is also employed in herbal medicine as a stimulant and appetite suppressant, due to its active ingredient, synephrine. Bitter orange supplements have been linked to a number of serious side effects and deaths, and consumer groups advocate that people avoid using the fruit medically.

It is used as grafting stock for citrus trees, in marmalade, and in liqueur such as triple sec, Grand Marnier and Curaçao.
